The 2024 NFL Draft is barely more than a week away, which means it’s time to get serious about projecting the future destinations of the best players in college Football.

One of the more interesting developments of the draft process has been the status of JJ McCarthy and the differing opinions he’s inspired across the league. One thing is nearly certain, however, and that is that a team is going to take a chance on the Michigan quarterback in Round 1.

McCarthy’s stock has risen throughout the draft process, as he is now challenging QB Drake Maye of North Carolina for the #3 overall pick in many mock drafts. But where do we see McCarthy ending up? Let’s break down the betting options for McCarthy at the NFL Draft.

At the time of publishing, McCarthy is favored to be a top-5 pick in this year’s NFL Draft. The over/under on the Michigan quarterback’s draft position is 5.5, but with heavy juice to the under at -166 odds. If you think McCarthy is going to be drafted outside of the top 5, then you can grab the over at +124 odds at FanDuel.

JJ McCarthy NFL Draft best bets

JJ McCarthy to be the #4 pick (+175)

At this stage in the NFL Draft process, there’s a lot of smoke surrounding the different prospects at the top of the first round, especially the quarterbacks. Here’s what we do know; Caleb Williams will certainly be taken by the Bears with the first overall selection. Following Williams, the CoMMAnders have all but made it clear that they’ll be selecting Jaden Daniels with the second overall pick. Things really start to get interesting after the top 2 picks, which is why you see McCarthy’s draft odds bunched closely together in the 3 picks to follow.

For my money, Drake Maye will be the taken with the #3 pick, even if the Patriots end up not being the team that drafts the North Carolina quarterback. That just leaves McCarthy as the remaining high-upside quarterback on the board and I can’t see a team in need of a quarterback passing on a chance to trade up for the Michigan QB at this spot. The Arizona Cardinals hold the #4 draft position at the moment and they would certainly like to trade down in the first round and accumulate more future draft picks in exchange for this pick. Therefore, I could totally see a desperate team in need of a quarterback (looking at you, Broncos and Vikings) trading up to the #4 spot to ensure that they get their guy. Let’s bet on McCarthy to be the 4th overall pick.
