'I forgot already' - Mikel Arteta on Arsenal's collapse last season
Mikel Arteta has claimed he has 'forgotten' about Arsenal's disappointing end to the 2022/23 Premier League campaign in which they finished five points behind champions Manchester City.
Arsenal were pipped to the Premier League title last season by treble winners Man City, despite the Gunenrs having amassed a whopping eight point lead at the top of the table at one point during the campaign.
Arsenal boss Arteta believes last season is old news, and claims he has erased it from his mind.
Speaking after Arsenal's victory over Brighton on Saturday, Arteta was asked on the differences between this year and last. He said: "I think we're in a really good moment. We have the squad healthy with a really good energy and a lot of confidence individually and collectively. We have to just keep doing what we're doing.
"Kai [Havertz] is certainly having a huge impact on the team. His overall performances have been really good and now his numbers for goal contributions are really high. He needs to maintain that.
"I think his understanding with the attacking players was superb. I think they had real purpose and connection and a lot of clarity on where to attack and we created many chances."
When asked about last season, Arteta's words were: "I forgot already."
Arsenal will continue to push on in the Premier League, hoping to win the title for the first time in 20 years. They're also continuing to challenge in the Champions League and will face Bayern Munich in the first-leg of the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
