How serious are Luka Doncic’s injuries? Will he play in game 4 against the Thunder?
Recent reports about Dallas Mavericks star player Luca Doncic suggest he is accused of faking his injuries. Despite playing long hours on the court, opposing fans and opponents are questioning the severity of his injuries. Doncic has been battling a lingering right knee sprain since the first round of the playoffs and has been quoted saying, “Everything hurts” after game 3. He showcased his unwavering determination by scoring 22 points and grabbing 15 rebounds to lead his team to victory.
Despite his evident physical struggles, Doncic has faced accusations of exaggerating his injuries to excuse subpar performances. However, according to Mavericks fans, his consistent presence on the court since his NBA debut and his pivotal role in the team’s success refute these claims. Even before the start of the series against the Thunder, criticism against Doncic has once again intensified, with opponents such as Lu Dort of the Oklahoma City Thunder questioning why Doncic would feign injury before facing such opponents. However, statistical evidence contradicts this notion. Doncic has performed impressively against Dort and others while visibly hindered by injuries.
Doncic’s injury woes are undeniable. From bloody knees to physical altercations on the court, he has endured a barrage of challenges throughout the playoff series against the Thunder and even previously against the Clippers. Reports indicate a right knee sprain and ankle soreness, legitimate ailments that could hinder his performance. Despite this, Doncic refuses to rest, averaging nearly 40 minutes per game in the playoffs, exemplifying his dedication to the team. A decline is evident in his scoring efficiency when looking at Doncic’s playoff statistics from 2019 to 2023. He shot 26% from beyond the arc and 41% from the field, both career lows. This decline could correlate with his reported injuries, casting doubt on claims that he is underperforming without legitimate physical hindrance.
TeaMMAtes and peers attest to Doncic’s toughness and resilience. Players like PJ Washington acknowledge his ability to withstand physicality and continue performing at a high level, emphasizing his importance to the team’s success. Despite his physical struggles, Doncic remains resolute in his pursuit of guiding the Mavericks to a triumphant Game 4 and series victory, so although he is still questionable for the Game, there is a great probability he will be in the first lineup. He has his sights set on a return to the Western Conference Finals for the second time in three seasons.
