For the fourth consecutive year, the Ferrari driver was the fastest in qualifying at this track, setting the quickest lap time of 1:41.365 minutes.

If Leclerc had the opportunity to design the Formula 1 calendar, he would choose to hold every race in Baku. The Monegasque driver secured pole position by a three-tenths of a second margin over Piastri and four seconds over Sainz with a solid final lap despite having plenty of time since leaving the garage in the morning. This marks his fifth pole position at this circuit in the last four years (all since 2021, in addition to the sprint in 2023).

Ferrari also had a very successful Sunday afternoon at the Azerbaijan GP: Carlos will start in third position. The car performs well on urban tracks like Monaco and circuits with long straights like Monza, so this hybrid track in Azerbaijan is expected to suit the capricious but comPetitive SF-24. This is the Spaniard’s best grid position since his third-place finish in Miami back in May.

From the other drivers, Oscar Piastri from McLaren came in second, trailing by 0.321 seconds. As we mentioned, Carlos Sainz from the second Ferrari finished in third place. Carlos Perez took fourth place, George Russell fifth, and Max Verstappen, the championship leader, finished sixth.

Lando Norris, currently second in the general standings, had a disastrous qualifying session, finishing in 17th place and failing to advance to the Q2 part of the qualifications.
