Whether treating yourself to a well-deserved staycation or seeking ways of elevating a visit to the city, Regent Hong Kong is the perfect choice.

Wherever I travel, my priority is finding the perfect home away from home — and when I visit this city, that’s exactly what Regent Hong Kong is for me. Since its grand reopening last year after a total transformation, the re-imagined five-star hotel has attracted discerning guests from around the world, while its exceptional service, thoughtful design, luxurious amenities and sumptuous dining choices have won countless awards.

This year alone, Regent Hong Kong has been voted the leading Hong Kong city hotel, the second favourite of 20 city hotels in Asia and in seventh place among the 100 best hotels in the world by the readers of Travel + Leisure. It was also named best Hong Kong hotel at the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2024, as well as earning spots on both the same magazine’s 2024 It List and Condé Nast Traveler’s 2024 Hot List.

Regent Hong Kong also won Trip Advisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award and was named best Business hotel in Hong Kong at the 2024 TTG China Travel Awards. Given accolades like these, it’s clear why Regent Hong Kong is not only my own hotel of choice while I’m in the city, but also that of countless other Travellers.

During my most recent visit, I stayed in a Corner Suite Harbourview, one of the most spectacular of the hotel’s array of lavish accommodations. Although all guestrooms are described as personal havens, once I opened the door to my wrap-around corner suite I knew this retreat was going to be especially sublime. I was immediately captivated by the mesmerising panorama of Victoria Harbour, which serves as the breathtaking backdrop to 100 square metres of personal space that includes both a spacious living room and a separate, more intimate bedroom. The living room features a bar cabinet as well as a desk, so after a busy day’s work or sightseeing, guests can unwind on the windowfront daybed, cocktail in hand, while taking in the magnificence of Hong Kong.

It was time for me to treat myself to a bite — and, with its breathtaking harbour views, The Lobby Lounge is a cinematic setting for a wonderful afternoon tea. This month until October 13, the lounge is transformed into a magical world where guests are immersed in a fantasy inspired by the Hong Kong Ballet’s current performance of The Wizard of Oz.

Tempted by the choice of delights both sweet and savoury, I first indulged in a Dorothy-inspired confection made with local lemon confit, fresh mint, ivory chocolate and whipped ganache, all topped with a layer of yuzu cream, before tucking into the Cowardly Lion’s honey sponge cake and the Tin Man’s cacao sponge with Valrhona Caraibe dark chocolate, caramelised cacao nibs and a little red heart candy. Although I couldn’t resist the inspired confections created by executive pastry chef Andy Yeung, you might first choose to savour head chef Rajiv Chowdhoory’s selection of finger sandwiches, which include blue crab and pomelo, egg and Gueldenstaegtii caviar, smoked salmon and cream cheese, and chicken ballotine and truffle mayonnaise. Never one to refuse a good cocktail, I also ordered the Yellow Brick Road, a refreshing blend of tequila, chamomile tea, passion fruit syrup and lemon juice.

My apPetite sated, it was time to head back to my suite for some indulgent relaxation — and one of my favourite things to do in any hotel is to de-stress in the bathtub. For these purposes, my suite’s Oasis bathroom was pure bliss, with a circular whirlpool bath that’s big enough for two set against a moongate-shaped window framing yet another view of the harbour. It was simply the perfect way of enjoying a stunning sunset over Hong Kong Island’s legendary skyline. Ramping things up a further notch, the Oasis bath amenities are premium products by world-renowned Healthy aging expert Dr Nicholas Perricone, which ensure your skin receives the tender loving care it deserves.

Properly pampered, it was time for my favourite meal of the day, and while Regent Hong Kong boasts some of the most brilliant restaurants in town, including the two-Michelin-star Lai Ching Heen, the world-renowned Nobu, the exceptional Qura Bar and another Michelin recommendation, The Steak House, my choice for dinner was the hotel’s lavish buffet experience at Harbourside.

Until September 30, Harbourside’s pizza station has been taken over by Tokyo’s famed Pizza Strada — and just like a good cocktail, I couldn’t pass up a fantastic Tokyo-style pizza from the restaurant voted into 14th place on the 2024 Asia-Pacific 50 Top Pizzas list. Of course, the full range of Asian and Western delicacies at the Harbourside buffet is still available, so you can indulge to your heart’s content, just as I did.

Hong Kong might be a city that never sleeps, but with a bed as comfortable as the one in my suite, it was hard to fight off the urge to jump right in – and with a selection of pillows that ranges from hypo-allergenic and contour-pressure-relieving to therapeutic support, I was able to find my perfect sleeping companion. I rewarded myself with a good night’s rest and woke up fresh and re-energised for another day of indulgence at this majestic haven on Victoria Harbour, Regent Hong Kong.
