Graeme Souness makes bizarre Celtic claim despite Brendan Rodgers’ post-match Rangers comments
The fallout of the Glasgow Derby continues today as pundits and media people have their say on how Celtic and Rangers performed in the 3-3 draw.
For Celtic, they went to Ibrox not to lose and may well feel that they could have won it had it not been for a VAR intervention.
For Rangers and Philippe Clement, they were looking to put a marker down and beat Celtic in a meaningful Game to stake a real claim for the Scottish Premiership title. They failed. Again.
With honours even, there was no change at the top of the league and Rangers know that they must now go to Dens Park tomorrow night and win against a very tough Dundee side.
However, it was what Graeme Souness said that really piqued my interest.
Graeme Souness clearly never listened to Brendan Rodgers
The former Rangers manager was giving his opinion on the game and on who he felt would have been happier with the full-time result. Rodgers or Clement? His answer was rather surprising.
Souness said [talkSPORT], “I think Jim asked or maybe Simon asked about who feels better after the Game.
“If you’re Celtic and 2-0 up at Ibrox and you don’t want it, then you get to 2-2 and then you go 3-2 with two or three minutes to go and you still don’t win the game, then you’re feeling sorry for yourself.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
“It’s a Game you should have won. And in that moment in time, you’re sitting in the Ibrox dressing room thinking, ‘That’s a Game we should have won.’
“For Rangers, they’ve clawed themselves back out of a game that they’re looking down both barrels of losing that game.
“So that’s why the momentum and the feel-good factor would’ve been Rangers yesterday in their dressing room more than Celtic.”
Brendan Rodgers’ verdict on Celtic’s draw with Rangers
The Celtic manager went to Ibrox as underdogs and without Callum McGregor in the starting lineup. The midfield trio of Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Tomoki Iwata were superb and controlled the first half easily.
And speaking post-match, Rodgers said, “Listen, I’m not disappointed. Clearly, the game went on for another eight minutes, so the game’s never done until the final whistle.
“But we kept fighting and kept pushing and these Games now with no supporters, thankfully it’s the last Games without the supporters, we had to stand up and be counted and the players did that. You saw that in the first half.”
So does that sound like a manager who is feeling sorry for himself? That sounds like a manager who is proud of his team and knows that after that Ibrox result, the title is firmly in Celtic’s hands.
