As the threat of ChatGPT intensifies, Google struggles to keep up with the comPetition for its widely-used search engine. The company invested around $300 million in an AI startup, Anthropic, which is building its own general-purpose chatbot: a potential rival to ChatGPT named Claude.

With a 10% stake in the company, Google's investment in late 2022, can be seen as a step towards comPeting with its rivals, though it's not clear if Claude will be integrated into its services.

According to Financial Time, Google already has a number of experts developing AI language models, and the move could be motivated to build Google’s cloud computing Business.
