With Joe Hart having retired at the end of the season gone by, Celtic are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper.

Peter Vindahl Jensen and Martin Dubravka have been the two most widely mentioned names over the past few days but now, a previous option has resurfaced.

Back in January, Celtic were said to have made an offer to sign Romanian stopper Horatiu Moldovan. The 26-year-old, however, eventually joined Atletico Madrid who activated his 800,000 euro release clause.

Moldovan’s first few months in the Spanish capital, though, haven’t gone to plan. He has yet to play for Atleti and recently stated he wants to depart them this summer.

“I want to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer or winter”, admitted the ‘keeper (Tare de tot cu Viorel Grigoroiu podcast via RecordSport).

“I don’t know if I’ll leave now, because it depends on what I do at the Euros with Romania. It depends on the opportunities that arise. But I definitely want to leave to play.

“If a good team from a big league presents itself to me, then I want to go. We will see what offers appear. You can’t reject (the chance to sign for) Atletico. But I want to play.”

More or less putting himself up for sale, it will be intriguing to see if Celtic make a move for Moldovan.

The champions’ previous interest is coherent with them having made an offer to sign him a few months ago.

Currently at the Euros with his country, the Parkhead faithful will now keep a keen eye on how Moldovan fairs in Germany.
