The Celtic family is in mourning today following the heartbreaking news of Landry N’Guemo’s untimely death. The former Cameroon international, who gave everything to the fans during his spell at Parkhead, has passed away at the age of just 38 after a car accident in his homeland.

N’Guemo joined Celtic on loan for the 2009-2010 season from French side Nancy, quickly becoming a fan favourite. His tireless performances in midfield saw him make 43 appearances under the guidance of Tony Mowbray and Neil Lennon. The season was fraught with challenges and Celtic ended the season with a lot of loan players on their books. Despite the poor season there was a swell of opinion that we should have signed Landry on a permanent deal but it never materialised.

Following his tenure in Glasgow, N’Guemo enjoyed stints at AS Saint-Étienne, Akhisar Belediyespor, Kayserispor, and eventually wrapped up his playing career in Norway with Kongsvinger.

AS Saint-Étienne, where N’Guemo spent a season, expressed their grief on social media: “Landry N’Guemo has left us. Far too soon, far too abruptly. ASSE mourns one of its own. To all his loved ones, we send our most sincere condolences.”

Bordeaux, another of N’Guemo’s former clubs, also paid their respects: “The Club was saddened to learn of the death of Landry N’Guemo. Victim of a traffic accident in Cameroon, the former Bordeaux native died at the age of 38. FC Girondins de Bordeaux sends its most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Landry was a quiet and respectful player on and off the pitch and it’s devastating to hear this tragic news.

Beyond Celtic, N’Guemo’s career was marked by versatility and dedication. He represented his country with pride, earning numerous caps for Cameroon and participating in several African Cup of Nations tournaments.

The Football world stands united in grief at the loss of Landry. His former clubs, teaMMAtes, and fans remember him not just as a talented Footballer but as a wonderful person whose life ended far too soon.

RIP Landry 💚
