Food and Drinks Events You Can’t Miss This September
This month, Japanese and Italian flavours take over Hong Kong’s gastronomic calendar.
Censu x Den Third Anniversary Celebration Collaboration
In celebration of Censu Hong Kong’s third anniversary, the Gough Street restaurant will be teaming up with the famed DEN Tokyo and chef Zaiyu Hasegawa to create an exclusive one-night-only menu on September 5 for our city’s gastronomes. The evening is themed around the Japanese idea of “yakusoku“, which translates to “promises,” as it was chef Shun Sato’s promise to bring success to his restaurant in Hong Kong. The eight-course menu will go for $3,388 and feature dishes such as zucchini flower tempura with bacon three cheese mousse and port wine truffle purée, Mayura wagyu with Arima Sansho soy and Japanese mushrooms, and paella with himono fish, scallop chicken rice and negi ginger sauce. For an extra $688, you’ll also get to enjoy a sake pairing that’ll let you try a yet-to-be-released SOMATO sake, created collaboratively with AMBUSH.
Sushi Zinc Joins Cafe Bau to Showcase Local Bounty Through Japanese Cuisine
On September 12 and 13, Sushi Zinc and chef Zinc Leung will be joining Cafe Bau and chef Kasey Chan for a two-night special menu spotlighting Hong Kong’s locally sourced ingredients with a touch of Japanese culinary finesse. Named “Field to Fork, Sea to Table,” the collaboration will see an eight-course menu priced at $1,588 feature dishes from star-snapper sashimi with crisp fish skin and local soy sauce, and cobia clay pot rice with Yi-O rice, XO sauce, cobia liver, shaved dried abalone and dried scallop to Kuruma shrimp mille feuille with shrimp roe aioli, an oxen tartare accompanied by oyster sabayon and noodlefish cracker, and Sushi Zinc’s signature tamagoyaki, this time with a twist involving corned beef ice cream instead of the classic vanilla butter and maple syrup.
La Terrace by Louise and Trattoria Felino Link Up with Ratafia Rossi
Lovers of French and Italian cuisine should make sure not to miss La Terrace by Louise’s upcoming collab with Trattoria Felino on September 11. For one night only, chef Marcello Scognamiglio will be bringing his rustic Neapolitan flavours and combine them with chef Loïc Portalier’s French flair, crafting together a special a-la-carte menu for the evening complemented by a beautifully curated selection of classic Italian cocktails by Simone Rossi of Ratafia Rossi. Indulge in dishes like the cappelletti with red Sicilian prawns, burrata and caviar, the beef tartare with bottarga and grilled toast, the grilled monkfish accompanied by Amatriciana ravioli, and egg carbonara with crispy guanciale and pecorino.
Italian Galore at Falcone and Bar Leone
On September 11 from 4 pm until late, Bar Leone and Lorenzo Antinori will be welcoming chef Josh Stumbaugh and Falcone to bring together the best of Italy’s gAstronomy and mixology. Enjoy your favourite cocktails at the bar while indulging in antipasti and pastas like Carciofi e Stracciatella, Frittatina di Pasta, Rigatoni alla Genovese, Penne al Pomodoro, and Spaghetti alla Maradona as the flavours of Rome and Naples come together. To dial things up a notch, DJ Neeno will also be in the house, spinning tunes throughout the night as you munch and gulp away over a Game of foosball.
