Five possible MLB trade targets before the deadline
The Trade Deadline is creeping up fast, folks. In just under two weeks, we’ll see a mad dash to July 30, where teams will have to decide whether to beef up their rosters, clear house, or just stay put. Pitching is the hot commodity this year, with almost every contender looking to bolster their rotation or bullpen—or both.
But the intrigue doesn’t stop there. As the calendar races toward the end of July, big questions loom. The Yankees might need a new catcher with Jose Trevino sidelined. The Mariners are hunting for bats, but is one enough, or do they need multiple? Will the Braves continue their quest for outfield depth? Can the Orioles and Dodgers snag enough pitching to tip the scales in their favor? And what about the Phillies? Do they need anything at all?
With so many questions in the air, it’s clear a lot of players will be swapping uniforms soon. As Major League Baseball kicks off the second half, let’s dive into five players who could be on the move before the month is out.
Jazz Chisholm Jr.
INF/OF, Miami Marlins
Chisholm’s name is buzzing in trade talks, especially with the Marlins hinting at a position switch. With 12 homers, 18 steals, and a .728 OPS, the versatile 26-year-old could be a dynamic addition to any lineup. Teams in need of a spark and flexibility might see Chisholm as a key acquisition.
Shane Bieber
RHP, Cleveland Guardians
Bieber, a former AL Cy Young Award winner, has consistently performed well with a 3.24 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over his last 52 starts. Given the Guardians’ History of trading top talent before free agency, Bieber is a prime candidate to be moved before the deadline.
Pete Alonso
1B, New York Mets
Alonso has been a consistent power hitter, with 123 home runs over the past three seasons. As he enters his final year before free agency and with the Mets’ playoff hopes in flux, Alonso could be a major trade piece if the Mets decide to sell.
Luis Robert Jr.
OF, Chicago White Sox
Robert Jr. is a standout outfielder with a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger to his name. His combination of power, speed, and defense makes him a highly coveted player under contract through 2027, making him an attractive option for contending teams.
Carlos Estévez
RHP, Los Angeles Angels
After a rocky start, Estévez has been lights out in June. With a $6.75 million contract and free agency looming, he could be a crucial bullpen addition for a contender down the stretch. Given the Angels’ underperformance this season, they are likely to be sellers, making Estevez a prime candidate to be moved.
So, baseball fans, buckle up. The next two weeks promise plenty of excitement and maybe a few surprises as teams maneuver to build their perfect postseason rosters.
