Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt opens up about quitting industry
Bollywood’s iconic filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt, has officially announced his retirement from directing, citing that he feels out of touch with the current era.
In a recent interview with Indian media, Mahesh Bhatt revealed that after directing over 50 films throughout his illustrious career, he believes the current filmmaking landscape no longer suits him. Bhatt acknowledged that while his films gained significant fame, his storytelling and directorial style have become outdated.
Reflecting on his career, Bhatt said that while that he no longer considers himself suitable for directing, he now wishes to give opportunities to new filMMAkers in the Indian film industry, as they better understand the preferences of today's generation.
Bhatt also mentioned that his daughter Alia Bhatt’s film, 'Sadak 2', will be his final directorial project. "After 'Sadak 2', I will step back from directing," he confirmed.
Mahesh Bhatt's journey in the film industry began in 1970 with the documentary 'Sankat'. He gained widespread acclaim in 1982 with the hit film 'Arth', which solidified his reputation as a talented director. Over the years, he directed numerous super hit films and won the prestigious Filmfare Award three times.
In addition to his directorial ventures, Mahesh Bhatt has been a significant iNFLuence in Bollywood, known for pushing boundaries and exploring bold themes. His legacy includes mentoring many successful filMMAkers and actors, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
