The Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Angels meet Saturday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this Game. Here’s an LA Angels vs Oakland Athletics Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Oakland A’s will send out Mitch Spence for the start here and Spence is 6-6 with a 4.67 ERA and 75 strikeouts this season. In his career, Spence is 2-1 with a 5.06 ERA and 14 strikeouts against the Angels. Tyler Anderson will get the start for the Angels here and is 8-8 with a 2.91 ERA and 89 strikeouts this season. In his last five starts against the A’s, Anderson is 3-0 with a 2.63 ERA and 26 strikeouts.
Oakland A’s Recap
The Oakland A’s come into this one looking to build some momentum after a 5-4 win in Friday’s clash. The win gave the A’s the inside track to picking up another series win after series wins over the Astros, Angels and Phillies over the last two weeks.
A’s Playing Best Ball Of The Season
Going into Friday’s matchup, Brent Rooker leads the A’s with 70 RBIs along with 24 home runs this season while Abraham Toro has 75 hits and 25 RBIs. JJ Bleday has a team-high 30 doubles, 4 triples, 88 hits and 36 RBIs and Toro has a .259 batting average. Rooker also has 115 K’s at the dish this season, while Zack Gelof has the unfortunate title of leading strikeout bat with 117 strikeouts this season. Shea Langeliers has also chipped in 19 home runs and 53 RBIs.
Why the Oakland Athletics will win
- The underdogs have won each of the Angels’ last six games.
- The Angels have lost each of their last five games as favorites.
- The Angels have failed to cover the run line in each of their last 11 Saturday games as favorites against American League opponents.
- The Athletics have covered the run line in each of their last seven night games against AL West opponents.
Los Angeles Angels Recap
The Los Angeles Angels will try to bounce back after taking one on the chin in Friday’s matchup, falling short after their solid start against Paul Blackburn but the Halos once again would let one get away. The Angels can only earn a series split at best after dropping the first two Games of the series, each by one run, failing to build on their series wins over the Mariners in the last two weeks.
Angels Can’t String Consistent Series Together
Entering Friday, Taylor Ward has 83 hits along with 18 doubles, 14 home runs and 45 RBIs. Mike Trout also has 10 home runs along with a pair of triples and 6 stolen bases, but remains out indefinitely with injury while Zach Neto has 23 doubles, 85 strikeouts and 18 stolen bases. Luis Rengifo also has 81 hits and 22 stolen bases while Jo Adell has 15 home runs, 46 RBIs and 13 stolen bases as well. Logan O’Hoppe has 85 hits and Neto has a team-high 88 hits as well with O’Hoppe adding 14 homers and 43 RBIs.
Why the Los Angeles Angels will win
- The Athletics have lost seven of their last eight road games following a win.
- The Angels have won five of their last six night games against the Athletics at Angel Stadium of Anaheim following a loss.
- The Angels have covered the run line in five of their last six night games against the Athletics at Angel Stadium of Anaheim following a loss.
- The Athletics have failed to cover the run line in four of their last five games as road underdogs following a win.
LA Angels vs Oakland Athletics Prediction
I’m on the over here. I lean towards the A’s, but the problem here is that Mitch Spence has not been reliable to back on the road this season. On the other side, Tyler Anderson is pitching above his pay grade in my opinion, and the A’s have still been sneaky good against left-handed pitching for much of the year. I think this has another high-scoring Game in store, so give me the over here.
