Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies
August 9, 2024 8:40 pm EDT

Major League Baseball presents a matchup between the Atlanta Braves and the Colorado Rockies. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a FanDuel perspective.

Before we dive into the Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies game let’s review the rules for the FanDuel single game showdown contest.

FanDuel Single Game Contest Rules

Here are the FanDuel single game contest rules. You have $60,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team MVP. The MVP accumulates 2x times the standard FanDuel fantasy points value.

The remaining four players in your lineup will be one star and three flex plays. The star player will receive 1.5x the standard fantasy points value. The final three flex positions will receive the standard FanDuel points value. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your MVP position if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) FanDuel single game contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single Game contest, I highly recommend that you check out the FanDuel website for more details.

*It should be noted that FanDuel does not utilize the pitcher position in single game MLB contests. Having stated that, only batters are available for single game MLB lineups on the FanDuel platform.

Here are my FanDuel picks for this evening’s Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies matchup.

FanDuel MLB Player Selections

MVP-Austin Riley, Third Baseman, Atlanta Braves $8,000

On Friday night, Major League Baseball presents the first game of a four game National League series between the Atlanta Braves and the Colorado Rockies.

How are these two teams playing entering tonight’s game? The Atlanta Braves arrive at tonight’s opening game of this four game National League series with the Colorado Rockies playing below average baseball. Let me be more specific. The Braves have lost five of the team’s last six games played in the 2024 MLB regular season, including an embarrassing 10-0 shutout loss to the Milwaukee Brewers three days ago.

Similar to the Atlanta Braves, the Colorado Rockies are also not playing good baseball entering tonight’s National League contest. More specifically, the Rockies have lost four of the team’s last five games played this season, including a 10-2 loss to the San Diego Padres five days ago.

Now that we have ascertained how both of these National League teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to this evening’s Game. Atlanta second baseman Austin Riley has certainly established himself as one of the best hitters in the Atlanta Braves lineup in 2024. Having stated that, how has Riley been playing recently?

In his last four games played for the Braves this season, Austin Riley has accumulated eight hits (two home runs), three runs scored, and two walks in 16 plate appearances. It has to be said, those are the type of DFS numbers I need to see from a player that I select for the MVP position.

As I noted in the rules section above, selecting the correct MVP is absolutely vital if you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest. In suMMAry, I am backing Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley at the MVP position for this one Game MLB FanDuel DFS slate.

Star-Marcell Ozuna, Outfielder, Atlanta Braves $9,500

Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna has certainly played quality baseball for the Braves this season. In his last two games played for the Atlanta Braves in the 2024 MLB regular season, Marcell Ozuna accumulated three hits (one home run), two runs batted in, and two walks in seven plate appearances.

I expect Ozuna to continue his quality play on the baseball diamond in tonight’s matchup versus the Colorado Rockies later today.

Flex plays I like this evening (FanDuel price noted): Ezequiel Tovar, Shortstop (Colorado Rockies) $8,500: Michael Toglia, First Baseman (Colorado Rockies) $7,500.
