Explained: The Mystery of Empty Rows at Celtic Park on Champions League Nights
For fans attending UEFA Champions League matches at Celtic Park, the sight of three empty rows circling the pitch might seem puzzling, especially considering the high demand for tickets during these coveted European nights.
However, this odd feature isn’t due to a lack of interest or ticket sales—it’s tied to the commercial realities of modern Football.
John Paul Taylor, Celtic’s Supporter Liaison Officer, has previously explained that the issue stems from advertising requirements during UEFA matches. On European nights, advertising boards are placed that obstruct the view from the first three rows. To ensure that fans have a clear line of sight and a quality viewing experience, Celtic chooses not to sell these obstructed seats.
Despite the necessary sacrifice, the atmosphere at Celtic Park remains unparalleled on these nights.
When Celtic got their noses in front on Tuesday night against RB Leipzig, the roof came off Celtic Park.
The atmosphere at Parkhead is always electric, and fan groups are constantly looking at ways of improving it.
One of the plans proposed by the Green Brigade and Bhoys Celtic is The Celtic End, but not much progress has been made on the idea, which has been limited to cameos in Women’s Games.
