For the first time ever, a few lucky people will be able to have a literal out-of-this-world experience. US-based luxury space Travel company SpaceVIP and carbon-neutral spaceflight experience company Space Perspective are creating a luxury dining experience in the vast emptiness of space through a Michelin-starred icon.

Chef Rasmus Munk of Copenhagen-based restaurant Alchemist will offer the incredible dining delight far above the atmosphere of Earth.

Alchemist, known particularly for its gigantic planetarium dome and Munk’s Holistic Cuisine offerings, has held two Michelin stars since 2020 and was ranked top 5 on the World’s Best Restaurant list in 2023.

According to SpaceVIP, the dining experience will take place on Spaceship Neptune — a space capsule designed and developed by Space Perspective.

The diners will lift off from the Space Coast of Florida for a six-hour journey into space, where they shall enjoy dishes inspired by the role of space exploration during the last 60 years of human History as well as their impact on society and the planet.

Only six guests will get the chance to enjoy the meal served in the blankness of space. Each will have to pay USD 495,000 for the experience.

The spaceflight is set to launch in late 2025.

No special training needed

No spaceflight training or experience is required for the voyage. They will also not require any special gear during the trip.

But the trip will be made memorable by French fashion house Ogier, which will design made-to-measure outfits specifically for the mission for each guest using cutting-edge fabric Technology.

Details of the spaceflight and experience

Space Perspective’s Spaceship Neptune pressurised capsule will be lifted using the company’s SpaceBalloon, which is a balloon propelled by renewable hydrogen. There are no rockets and none of the associated carbon footprint.

The SpaceBalloon rises slowly at 19.3 km/h and remains affixed to the capsule from lift-off to touchdown.

Spaceship Neptune will ascend 100,000 ft above sea level where the guests will dine while they watch the sunrise over the Earth’s curvature. On board WiFi will allow them to livestream their experience to their fans, followers or near and dear ones.

More to follow in future

The one-of-a-kind mission is the first in a series of similar experiences that SpaceVIP is planning with leading artists in their respective fields through voyages with Space Perspective.

“In this experience, I want to highlight food as a common thread in our human existence, and it will be truly meaningful to serve it while gazing down at the Earth’s curvature,” Chef Rasmus Munk said in a statement.

All proceeds from this expedition will be directed to the Space Prize Foundation, dedicated to promoting gender equity in Science and Technology.
