2024 Valero Texas Open
April 4, 2024 8:00 am EDT

This Thursday, the PGA Tour presents the first round of the 2024 Valero Texas Open. Let’s take a look at this event from a DFS perspective.

Before I discuss my Draftkings player selections, let’s take a look at where the first round of the Valero Texas Open will be played.

The 2024 Valero Open will be played at TPC San Antonio (AT&T Oaks Course) in San Antonio, Texas. The AT&T Oaks Course is a par 72 that measures approximately 7,378 yards.

I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact DFS lineup.

Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a DraftKings GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

For those readers who are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single round showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.

If you need to review the specific rules for the single round showdown contests feel free to check out the DraftKings website.

Here are my DraftKings player selections for the first round of the 2024 Valero Texas Open.

Draftkings Player Picks

Aaron Rai $8,000

The talented young Englishman has accumulated three top 23 finishes in his last five events played on the PGA Tour, including a seventh-place result at last week’s 2024 Texas Children’s Houston Open.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2024 Valero Texas Open field, in the last 24 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Aaron Rai ranks eighth in strokes gained approach, ninth in strokes gained off the tee, fifth in GIR (greens in regulation), sixth in bogey avoidance.

Lucas Glover $7,600

Lucas Glover has accumulated two top 30 finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including an 11th place result at the 2024 Valspar Championship.

Glover finished fourth at the 2018 Valero Texas Open.

Ryan Moore $7,100

Two weeks ago, Ryan Moore fired a final round 68 at the 2024 Valspar Championship en route to an eventual fifth place result.

Due to Ryan Moore posting a quality finish at the 2024 Valspar Championship, I decided to take a hard look at the player statistics for the four-day tournament to see how Moore fared relative to the field.

After four rounds of comPetitive play at the 2024 Valspar Championship, in relation to the field, Moore ranked first in strokes gained tee to green (10.8), second in strokes gained approach, 16th in strokes gained off the tee (2.4), and second in GIR (greens in regulation-8.1).

Additionally, Ryan Moore has played well at TPC San Antonio in the past. Moore finished third at the 2019 Valero Texas Open.

Additional Golfers I like to play well in the first round: Ludvig Aberg $10,500: Hideki Matsuyama $10,400: Alex Noren $8,900: Kyoung-Hoon Lee $7,400: Ben Griffin $7,200.
