dq Hollywood Betrayal? Ryan Reynolds MISSES Wrexham’s Promotion Party (Was Deadpool More Important?)
Ryan Reynolds expressed regret for missing Wrexham’s pivotal promotion moment due to filming commitments for Deadpool. The Hollywood actor and co-owner, alongside Rob McElhenney, miscalculated when the team would secure their place in League One for the 2024-25 season.
Wrexham, under the ownership of Reynolds and McElhenney, achieved their second consecutive promotion, marking a return to the EFL after a 15-year absence. The owners had invested in experienced players like Steven Fletcher, James McLean, and Jack Marriott, strategically bolstering the team’s strength to ensure swift progress through the divisions.
Despite being in a strong position with just three Games remaining in the League Two season, Reynolds and McElhenney misjudged the timing of Wrexham’s promotion. The crucial matchday arrived on April 13, where Wrexham had a chance to clinch promotion with favorable results from other Games.
A phone call between Reynolds and McElhenney on their show “Welcome to Wrexham” revealed their dileMMA. With Reynolds immersed in filming Deadpool, they debated whether to Travel to Wales for the potential promotion-clinching Game against Forest Green. They opted to delay their trip, assuming Wrexham could secure promotion the following week on Matchday 45.
Contrary to their expectations, Wrexham achieved a resounding 6-0 victory against Forest Green, coupled with Gillingham’s 3-0 win over Barrow and Mansfield Town’s 4-1 victory against MK Dons. This perfect combination secured Wrexham’s promotion to League One two Games ahead of schedule, leaving Reynolds and McElhenney celebrating from afar in North America.
Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Reynolds expressed regret over not being present to celebrate Wrexham’s achievement firsthand. Their decision to delay their trip, based on what seemed unlikely at the time, resulted in them missing out on a major celebration moment with the team and fans.
Despite the distance, Reynolds and McElhenney’s commitment to Wrexham’s success is evident. Their ownership has not only revitalized the club but also brought renewed hope and enthusiasm among supporters. Moving forward, they remain dedicated to continuing Wrexham’s upward trajectory in English football.
