The Dallas Cowboys made their final roster cuts on Tuesday as the deadline to get the roster down to 53 was at 4 p.m. ET. One of the positional battles was for the fourth running back spot behind Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle and fullback Hunter Luepke. Towards the end of the preseason, it was clearly a battle between two players for the spot - Deuce Vaughn and Royce Freeman.

Deuce Vaughn wins RB4, Royce Freeman cut

Vaughn played well in the last two preseason Games, logging 34 rushing yards in just five attempts for a team-high 6.8 yards per carry against the Raiders and then led all the RBs during Saturday’s preseason finale with nine carries for 53 yards.

The 5′5″, 175 pound back played his first season in the league last year and he’s made the cut again this year. This season, the Cowboys plan to use a committee approach with their running backs and it’s more likely that explosive Vaughn gets activated as a starting returner than anything else. Either way, he’s on the final roster.

On Tuesday, the Cowboys made their final cuts and that included Royce Freeman as well as fellow running backs Malik Davis, Nathaniel Peat, and Scoop Connor.
