The Detroit Tigers (4-0) and New York Mets (0-4) play the middle Game of their 3-Game series Tuesday. First pitch from the Citi Field is slated for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Tigers vs. Mets odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tigers lead 1-0

The Tigers remained perfect on the season by scoring 5 runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat the Mets 5-0 on Monday night in New York. Five Detroit pitchers combined for the 10-inning shutout.

After being swept at home by the Milwaukee Brewers, a fielding error by 2B Joey Wendle in the 10th inning ended up costing them the game. New York has struggled to score runs, failing to produce more than 1 run in 3 of their 4 games.

Tigers at Mets projected starters

RHP Casey Mize vs. RHP Adrian Houser

Mize had Tommy John surgery on June 15, 2022, to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

  • Has not pitched since April 14, 2022
  • Career 7-13 record with a 4.29 ERA

Houser (8-5, 4.12 ERA in 2023 with the Milwaukee Brewers) makes his 1st start. He had a 1.39 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 7.8 K/9 in 111 1/3 IP.

  • 2023 home stats: 4-2, 4.15 ERA (56 1/3 IP, 26 ER) in 11 starts and 1 relief appearance
  • Last start vs. Tigers: Loss, 4 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 8-3 road loss Sept. 8, 2020

Tigers at Mets picks and predictions

Prediction

Mets 5, Tigers 2

Moneyline

BET METS (-130).

The Mets (-130) will finally get a notch in the win column on Tuesday night. This has to be where the streak ends with the Tigers putting Mize back on the bump for the 1st time in nearly 2 years. Despite what the team says, I don’t expect Detroit to have a long rope with Mize as he continues his comeback from Tommy John surgery. New Mets starter Houser has a much more recent track record to go by and he should benefit from a Mets’ lineup that is overdue to breakout.

As much as I like New York to win this Game, I’m not confident enough to take the run line even with the better odds.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

I’ll save my unit for the moneyline in this one.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 8 (-120).

Both of these teams have been Under the total in 3 of their 4 games played this season. The Mets have scored 1 run or fewer in 3 of their 4 games and the Tigers have the 2nd-best ERA in the league thus far at 1.89.

These teams did not score a run until the 10th inning of their 1st game Monday night. I don’t expect fireworks in this game either.
