Complete list of MLB American League pennant winners since 1969
The American League Championship Series (ALCS), where baseball teams battle it out in October to see who gets to wave the American League pennant with pride. The victorious team from this series shall ascend to the grand stage, where they will face off against the National League Championship Series winner.
In 1969, the American League shook things up and divided itself into two divisions, East and West. The champions of each division faced off in a fierce best-of-five showdown, battling it out to see who would earn the prestigious ticket to the World Series. It was back in 1985 when the format decided to spice things up and switch to a best-of-seven showdown.
But what is the complete list of winners of the American League since 1969?
The New York Yankees hold the record for winning the most American League titles, with a total of 11 victories. On the other hand, the Seattle Mariners are the only team in the American League that has not won an American League Championship Series (ALCS) and therefore have not made an appearance in the World Series.
