Comparisons Drawn Between Weekend Events and 2011 Title Race; Bodes Well For Celtic
Over the past few years, Celtic fans have not been used to tight title races. One has to go back to the 2010/11 season for the last time the destination of the championship was well and truly up in the air in the dying embers this season.
That particular campaign did not go down well for Celtic. The Hoops eventually lost the league by a point, a 3-2 defeat to Inverness in the Highlands towards the campaign’s end hugely contributing towards such a happening.
Between that season and the current one, Clyde 1 Supercoreboard pundit Roger Hannah has drawn comparisons.
Speaking on the show on Monday evening, he felt Rangers’ 3-2 defeat to Ross County on Sunday was similar to Celtic’s loss up North over a decade ago, and that it could have positive title implications for the Bhoys.
He said: “It took me back to 2011 yesterday (Sunday).
“Do you remember Celtic losing 3-2 at Inverness after the split in 2011? Totally out of the blue, they weren’t expected to lose, they were expected to go up to the Highlands and win with a bit to spare but they lost the Game.
“Rangers never looked back and won the league. I think this is the mirror image of that coming now.”
If Hannah is correct, Celtic fans will be rejoicing in a third league title in a row next month. Nothing is said and done yet, though, and there is still a wealth of Football to be played.
Post-split, there are five Games to go but Brendan Rodgers’ men know what they need to do.
