The Houston Astros and the Colorado Rockies meet Sunday in MLB action from the Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this Game. Here’s a Houston Astros vs Colorado Rockies prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Houston Astros will be sending Framber Valdez to the mound here for his first start since April 2nd. Valdez is 0-0 with a 2.19 ERA and 10 strikeouts this season. In his career, Valdez is 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA and 13 strikeouts against the Rockies. Austin Gomber will get the start for Colorado in this one and is 0-1 with a 4.32 ERA and 20 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gomber is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 11 strikeouts against Houston.

Houston Astros Recap

The Houston Astros can really use the two-Game sweep if they can get the job done here after losing series to the Cubs, Nationals and Braves over the last two weeks and won Saturday’s series opener by a final count of 12-4. The Astros fell behind early but scored in 5 of 9 innings including multiple runs in 4 innings, outhitting the Rockies 15-8 in the win.

Astros Came Alive In Opener

Going into Saturday, Jose Altuve leads the Astros with 37 hits and a .346 batting average with 6 home runs and 8 doubles while Kyle Tucker has 5 homers with 7 doubles and a team-high 17 RBIs. Yordan Alvarez also has 5 homers with 14 RBIs while Tucker has the Astros’ team lead with 5 stolen bases so far this season.

Colorado Rockies Recap

The Colorado Rockies could also use the win to earn a series split for the second straight series after splitting with the Padres to start the week, which followed up their series loss to the Mariners prior to that. Colorado cranked out a pair of runs in the first but fell behind quickly after that and never recovered.

Rockies Looking For Offensive Outbreak

Entering Saturday’s opener, Ryan McMahon leads the Rockies with 30 hits along with 5 doubles and a team-high 14 RBIs and a .312 batting average while Ezequiel Tovar has 30 hits of his own with 3 home runs, 6 doubles and 12 RBIs. Michael Toglia has a team-high 4 home runs while Nolan Jones has the dubious distinction of leading the Rockies with 36 strikeouts this season. Brenton Doyle leads the Rockies with 7 doubles while adding 30 hits as well and Tovar has 6 doubles as well on the year. Elias Diaz has also contributed 14 RBIs as well this season.

Houston Astros vs Colorado Rockies prediction

I’m on the Astros here. I know the Astros are heavy favorites here and maybe shouldn’t be considering their form this season. However, the Astros still have a decent team on paper, and a lot of those names are still pieces from the team last year that demolished left-handed pitchers like Austin Gomber and ate him for breakfast. The Rockies just don’t have consistent enough offense to keep pace when the Astros bats are on, and I trust Houston in Sunday’s matchup more than I do Colorado to get runs off of Houston’s staff ace. Give me the Astros.
