And just like that, we are more than 1 month through the college football season. As we embark on Week 6, the playoff race is really heating up. Alabama is in the driver’s seat in the SEC with its win over Georgia and Ole Miss’ loss to Kentucky, while Ohio State and Miami maintained their advantages in the Big Ten and ACC, respectively. The Big 12 is pure chaos, which is awesome to watch, and the Group of 5 race is seemingly being controlled by Liberty, Boise State and UNLV.

Obviously, there is plenty of time left for all of this to change — starting in Week 6. Let’s take a peek at the early week lines as of Monday and cap it off with a best bet. With the win on Notre Dame last week, we are now 3-1 on these early week picks this season!

NCAAF Week 6 early best bet: West Virginia Mountaineers +4.5 over Oklahoma State Cowboys (-110)

Despite West Virginia being responsible for our only loss through 5 weeks, I’m going back to the well with the Mountaineers. They will be on the road in this matchup but were idle in Week 5 and had extra time to prepare for this one. The exact opposite is true for the Cowboys, who lost their second conference game in convincing fashion at Kansas State last week. Mathematically, the ‘Pokes may still have a chance to win the conference and earn an automatic bid to the College Football Playoff, but the likelihood of that happening seems pretty low given the current landscape of the conference and how disappointing they have been on both sides of the ball. After Kansas State gained 300 rushing yards on 34 carries against them in Week 5, the Cowboys now yield more than 204 rushing yards per game — which ranks 118th nationally. They are bottom 5 in explosive runs allowed, as well. Unfortunately for them, West Virginia is another team with a very strong rushing attack; running backs Jahiem White and CJ Donaldson and dual-threat quarterback Garrett Greene have already accumulated 687 combined rushing yards and 8 touchdowns through 4 games.

While West Virginia’s defense is a bit of a concern, the Oklahoma State line hasn’t done its offense any favors and quarterback Alan Bowman has been a walking turnover. Even with a struggling defense, this seems to be a favorable spot for the Mountaineers — who may play with a bit of extra motivation in Stillwater after yielding 28 fourth-quarter points to the Cowboys last year in a 48-34 home loss. Considering the rest advantage and the fact that Oklahoma State may be reeling from its second conference loss in as many Games, I really like the Mountaineers catching points in this spot. Make sure to shop around for the best number as lines move throughout the week!
