The San Diego Padres and the Cleveland Guardians meet Saturday in MLB action from Progressive Field. Here’s a Cleveland Guardians vs San Diego Padres prediction. This will be the second installment in a three-Game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for the Game.
San Diego Padres Betting Preview
Last weekend the Padres took on the Atlanta Braves. San Diego was only able to win the Saturday Game 4-0; otherwise it was a pair of losses 6-1 and 6-3. On Friday versus the Guardians, the Padres were blown out 7-0. Matt Waldron posted 6.0 innings in the start with one earned on six hits.
It’ll be Dylan Cease in the starter role for the Padres on Saturday. This year Cease is 8-8 with a 3.99 ERA in 20 starts. Cease is 51-43 with a 3.85 ERA in 143 career starts.
Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview
Over on the Guardians’ side, they played the Rays in their last series prior to the break. Cleveland won 4-2 in their Saturday matchup but lost the other pair 2-0 in both. On Friday the Guardians scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Starter Tanner Bibee lasted 5.2 innings with three walks and two hits.
It’ll be Gavin Williams in the starter role for the Guardians on Saturday. This year Williams is 0-1 with a 3.77 ERA in three starts. Williams is 3-6 with a 3.36 ERA in 19 career starts.
Guardians vs Padres Pick Injury Notes
Padres 1B Luis Arraez (thumb) didn’t play in Tuesday’s All-Star Game due to his injury.
Guardians SP Matthew Boyd (elbow) began a rehab assignment Tuesday.
Cleveland Guardians vs San Diego Padres Prediction
I’ll stay with the Guardians. Williams had a rough start to begin July with five earned in 4.0 innings during a loss to the White Sox. Since then however, Williams has been hot with one earned in 10.1 innings. As for Cease, he’s coming off 6.0 clean frames versus the Braves and should do fairly well here also.
On Friday the Guardians had one big inning on offense and the pitching staff did the rest. After Bibee, the pen came in with 3.1 innings of clean ball. I like Cleveland to keep it rolling in Game two.
