USMNT star Christian Pulisic has broken his own record for most league goals in a season in AC Milan’s home victory over Lecce in Serie A.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea attacker opened the scoring for his team in just the sixth minute, firing into the net from the edge of the box with his left foot. Pulisic had previously set a season-best of 12 goals in all comPetitions in the win over Hellas Verona in March, and has now hit double figures in the league for the first time in his career.

The 25-year-old has netted 13 times in 41 appearances overall, with 10 goals coming in 29 Serie A appearances. His previous league best had been nine goals (in 25 games) in the 2019/20 Premier League season for Chelsea.

How many goals has Pulisic scored in European soccer?

Since joining Dortmund as a 16-year-old in 25, Pulisic has played almost nine seasons in Europe (four each in the Bundesliga and the Premier League, this is his first in Serie A), during which time he has found the net on 58 occasions in 313 matches, including 43 league goals in 216 games.

Those figures mean he is edging closer to being the top-scoring American in Europe’s top leagues, a title which is currently held by Clint Dempsey.

How many more goals does Pulisic need to become the top-scoring American in Europe?

The former New England Revolution and Seattle Sounders played in the Premier League for seven and a half seasons, with his lengthy spell at Fulham accompanied by a year with Tottenham Hotspur.

Dempsey scored 60 goals in 232 appearances (50 in 189 in the league) for The Cottagers, to which we have to add 12 goals in 43 matches (seven in 29 in the league) for Spurs.

Pulisic therefore needs another 15 goals in all competitions to surpass Dempsey’s overall tally of 72, and also 15 in the league to overtake his compatriot’s record of 57 in domestic championships.
