Chris Paul is one of the greatest point guards in NBA history. Because of that, he is uniquely qualified to assess the current batch of the league’s stars and what their true potential is.

Recently Paul appeared on Pat McAfee’s show and delved into who he views as the next potential face of the league.

“I don’t think there’s just a next one and all these guys are so good in their own right and I think the way media works today, you’re only as good as your last game,” he said.

“Luka [Doncic] is good for one minute, then everybody is talking about Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander], then it’s Anthony Edwards, then it’s the next person. Everybody was in love with [Jayson Tatum]. I think for those guys, they just gotta keep their heads down and keep doing the work.”

That being said, Paul really respects San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama and thinks he is going to be a big problem going forward.

“Wemby is different and he’s the guy you’re talking about after the game”, said Paul.

“Wemby is the guy that, after the game in the locker room we all were talking about playing against him. We literally all had to change how we shot a little bit.”

Interestingly enough, Paul has been linked to the Spurs in recent weeks as a possible pickup ahead of next season.

Will Paul and Wembanyama ultimately opt to team up ahead of next year and return the Spurs to some semblance of glory? Time will tell.
