The St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs meet Friday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. Here’s a Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction. This will be the second installment in a four-Game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for the Game.

St. Louis Cardinals Betting Preview

The Cardinals played the Texas Rangers this week. St. Louis lost Monday’s matchup 6-3 but then came back for wins 8-1 and 10-1 to take the series. On Thursday in the opener versus the Cubs, the Cardinals coughed up three runs in the ninth for a rough 5-4 loss. Sonny Gray finished with 7.0 innings and two earned runs in the start.

It’ll be Erick Fedde in the starter role for the Cardinals on Friday. This year so far Fedde is 7-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts. Fedde is 28-37 with a 4.92 ERA in 123 career Games (109 starts).

Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

Over on the Cubs’ side, they played the Cincinnati Reds in their last series. Chicago lost the first pair 7-1 and 6-3 but stopped the sweep with a 13-4 blowout victory on Wednesday. In Thursday’s Game the Cubs got a walk-off double from Mike Tauchman. Starter Shota Imanaga gave up four earned on 10 hits in 6.2 frames.

Javier Assad will take the ball for the start on Friday. Across 19 starts Assad is 5-3 with a 3.23 ERA. Over 60 career Games (37 starts) Assad is 12-8 with a 3.13 ERA.

Cardinals vs Cubs Pick Injury Notes

Cubs 3B Benjamin Cowles will likely miss the rest of the season after getting hit on the wrist by a pitch.

Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals Prediction

I’ll take a stab on the Cardinals. This one’s going to depend on how the starters do, though. Fedde has five earned runs in 15.1 innings over his last three starts combined. He’s 1-1 in that time. As for Assad, he’s given up six earned over his last three appearances in 11.1 innings.

On Thursday the Cardinals had the game in hand until a nightmare outing from Ryan Helsley (0.2 innings; four hits; three earned). The good news is that the offense was solid; five different players had multiple hits. St. Louis only used two arms out of the bullpen as well. I like the Cardinals to bounce back Friday. Should be another good matchup.
