The San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs meet Wednesday in MLB action from Wrigley Field. Here’s a Chicago Cubs vs San Diego Padres Prediction. This will be the final installment in a three-Game series. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for the Game.

San Diego Padres Betting Preview

The Padres played the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend, winning the first two Games before a Sunday loss 11-4 spoiled the sweep. On Monday San Diego got another win over the Cubs 6-3. In Game two the Padres scored twice in the eighth inning but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 loss. Starter Randy Vasquez finished with 4.1 innings, one earned, five hits and no walks.

In the starter role for the Wednesday matchup the Padres will send out Dylan Cease. In his seven starts this year Cease is 4-2 with a 2.55 ERA and 48 Ks in 42.1 innings. Cease is 47-37 with a 3.75 ERA in 130 career starts.

Chicago Cubs Betting Preview

Over on the Cubs’ side, they played the Milwaukee Brewers in their last set. Chicago would lose Friday 3-1 before weekend wins 6-5 and 5-0 to take the series. Following their Monday loss, in Game two the Cubs posted the walk-off victory on 10 team hits. Cody Bellinger (three hits) and MIchael Busch (two hits) each had solo homers.

It’ll be Hayden Wesneski in the starting pitcher role for the Cubs on Wednesday. This year in his four Games (two starts), Wesneski is 2-0 with a 0.54 ERA and 14 Ks in 16.2 innings. Wesneski has 44 Games (17 starts) in his career with an 8-7 record and a 3.56 ERA.

Padres vs Cubs Injury Notes

Cubs RF Seiya Suzuki (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday. SP Jordan Wicks (forearm) was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, as was RP Drew Smyly (hip).

Chicago Cubs vs San Diego Padres Prediction

I’ll stick with the Cubs. Wesneski is pitching well over his last couple of appearances. He’s got 10.1 innings in that pair with just one earned on eight hits and three walks. As for Cease, he had a rough outing versus Philly (6.0 innings; five earned) but pitched well in two of his last three. Cease has a combined 13.2 innings and two earned runs in that pair.

On Tuesday the Cubs got a timely effort from the bats in the close victory. Starter Shota Imanaga did a nice job with 7.0 innings and two earned, while seven different players got into the action on offense. I think Chicago has a good chance at keeping things rolling in the finale.
