Chelsea's best and worst players in manic victory over Man Utd
Hopefully you've caught your breath.
The absolute chaos that is Chelsea's 2023/24 season reached a new high (or low) with an utterly mental 4-3 win over Manchester United on Thursday, with the Blues sealing the latest comeback in Premier League history thanks to two Cole Palmer goals beyond the 100th minute.
Here are Chelsea's best and worst players from 90min's player ratings.
Chelsea's best player vs Man Utd
Cole Palmer - 10/10
Duh.
Cole Palmer was cooking from start to finish and, having scored Chelsea's second 19 minutes in, was the Blues' best player even before his show-stopping antics as the clock ticked over to 100.
The mentality needed to handle the pressure of a 100th-minute penalty to save your team against a rival is off the charts, but Palmer didn't even celebrate his equaliser. He got the ball out of the net and ran back to try and find one more chance to score a winner. Palmer's third goal was as ugly as they come, but absolutely nobody will care about that.
Honourable mention
Conor Gallagher - 7/10
Somehow, there will still be critics who watch this performance and determine that Conor Gallagher is the problem in Chelsea's expensive midfield.
The academy graduate brought the energy needed for a Game of this magnitude and led by example. He opened the scoring inside the first few minutes and never slowed down, pressing hard and putting in some excellent tackles. Plenty of teaMMAtes should be taking notes.
Chelsea's worst player vs Man Utd
Moises Caicedo - 3/10
Chelsea had a grip on the Game until Moises Caicedo's under-hit pass sent Alejandro Garnacho through on goal 34 minutes in.
It seemed like the midfielder's confidence never returned after that as Caicedo was guilty of a handful of sloppy decisions and underwhelming moments. He was hooked 70 minutes in shortly after United's third goal, and it's no coincidence that Chelsea improved after that point.
Dishonourable mention
Marc Cucurella - 4/10
Antony managed his first goal contribution of the Premier League season up against Marc Cucurella, who failed to keep up with perhaps the most out-of-form forward in the division.
He did win an early penalty, but Cucurella did his best to undo that early impact.
