The news this week Celtic are exploring the possibility of introducing a new standing section for the ‘bhoys’ on the opposite side of the stadium to the current Green Brigade area has been received well . While this isn’t the coveted ‘Celtic End’ that both ultra groups have been advocating for, it marks a significant step by the club to accommodate the ultras.

The positive move comes in the wake of a tumultuous season where the board and the Green Brigade were often at odds. The Green Brigade were notably barred from Celtic Park last season due to behaviour the club deemed unacceptable. The group, however, maintained that they were being unfairly targeted for their vocal and visible pro-Palestine stance.

Despite the tensions, the situation was eventually resolved, allowing the Green Brigade to return to their section. Their reappearance undeniably boosted the atmosphere within the stadium, contributing to the team’s successful league campaign.

The new standing section proposal highlights the club’s willingness to support ultra fans, balancing enthusiasm with safety and cost considerations. This initiative indicates a recognition of the vital role these groups play in generating the fervent matchday atmosphere that Celtic Park is known for.

While the Green Brigade and other ultras might still dream of a unified ‘Celtic End,’ this development demonstrates a practical approach from the board. By facilitating another dedicated area for standing fans, Celtic are making strides towards enhancing the matchday experience.

Celtic are awaiting the green light from Glasgow City Council who also had to okay the Green Brigade section when it first was implemented. That section also has to pass safety standards every year by GCC.

Ultimately, this move could serve as a bridge between the board and the fans, fostering a more cooperative relationship moving forward.
