Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers sent a key reminder to Scottish Football and the mainstream media after his side romped to a dominant 6-0 victory over Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals yesterday.

The Hoops were electric at Hampden as Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, and Nicolas Kuhn all scored in the rout of the Dons.

Rodgers will bring his side back to the national stadium next month for the Premier Sports Cup final, and after last night’s win, the boss sent a key reminder to the mainstream media and those within Scottish football about Celtic.

Indeed, going into yesterday’s Game, Aberdeen were hyped up. Given their run of form, Jimmy Thelin’s side deserved plaudits, but many seemed to forget that the Hoops were on an equally as impressive string of results.

Rodgers was asked live on BBC Sportsound post-match if he was surprised at the gulf between Celtic and their opponents yesterday: “Aberdeen have had a really good start to the season,” he admitted.

“But I think people forgot that we had [a really good start to the season] as well.

“We’ve been very good.

“It’s maybe the first time Aberdeen had a game midweek, but, again, I look to our players, and they constantly have games midweek and have those demands, and we get through the games.”

Rodgers deserves credit for the smart manner in which he has managed his squad over the past few Games.

The Celts are amid a hectic domestic and European schedule, during which their strength in depth has shone through.

The manager’s post-match message, broadcast live on the radio yesterday, reminded Scottish football that Celtic shouldn’t be underestimated and that they deserve enormous credit for their near-perfect start to the domestic season.
