It’s another packed slate today with action all across the country. The day begins with the Cardinals visiting the Pirates at 6:40 PM and concludes with the Giants and Dodgers in Los Angeles at 10:30 PM. I’ve analyzed the slate and have found 2 player prop bets bets for tonight, so let’s get right into it!

Chris Sale (ATL) Over 7.5 Strikeouts (-120)

Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing

Chris Sale surpassed all expectations in the first half of the season. When the Braves traded for the ace in the offseason, they were hoping to get a solid 3rd starter behind Spencer Strider and Max Fried. However, Sale has turned into the ace of the staff. The lefty posted a 2.70 ERA and 2.70 xERA in 18 starts while also recording a 32.4% strikeout rate – his highest since 2019. His swing and miss stuff is back and better than ever, and his fastball has plenty of life to it. Sale finished the first half of the season recording 8 or more strikeouts in 5 of his final 7 starts. Plus, the lefty has performed much better at home this season. He holds just a 2.72 ERA and a .198 batting average allowed in 9 starts on his home mound. Tonight, his opponent will be the Cincinnati Reds, who have struggled against left-handed pitchers lately. Since June 1, the Reds rank 21st in wRC+ and 9th in strikeout rate against southpaws. This matchup is exactly what Sale needs to start the second half of the season, so back the ace to get at least 8 punchouts.

Logan Gilbert (SEA) Over 18.5 Outs Recorded (+120)

Available at DraftKings Sportsbook at time of publishing

I was surprised to see this line at plus odds. In order for this bet to win, Logan Gilbert needs to pitch at least 6.1 innings tonight against the Angels. That’s a feat that Gilbert has done in 2 straight starts and in 6 of his last 8 starts. The Seattle ace is becoming well-known for his ability to go deep into Games, and in his last start against the Angels, Gilbert completed 7 innings and surrendered only 2 hits and 0 runs. He has had plenty of success against the Angels lineup in the past considering he owns a 25.4% strikeout rate against the Los Angeles lineup in his career. As for tonight, it will be his first start of the second half of the season. That means Gilbert is the most rested he’s been since the season began. I’m expecting Seattle to try and get at least 6 innings of work out of Gilbert, and if he’s at 90 pitches or below after 6, to send him back out to the mound for the 7th inning.
