Barcelona’s Champions League schedule: UCL fixtures, dates, times
Despite the recent upheaval, Barcelona have made a promising start to the 2024/25 season and could be a major challenger in the Champions League again this year.
New head coach Hansi Flick has overseen three wins in his first three LaLiga games in charge and he has enjoyed real success in Europe in the past. While in charge of Bayern Munich Flick led the Bavarian giants to a treble of Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League in 2019/20, a historic season for the club.
Barcelona’s Champions League schedule was announced on Saturday, with confirmed dates for each of their eight league phase matches. Here’s their full fixture list...
When is Barcelona’s first Champions League game?
Barça will open their 2024/25 campaign with an away Game against 2004 finalists Monaco on Thursday, September 19. For the first time, Champions League Games have been scheduled on a Thursday in matchday one as part of UEFA’s new ‘exclusive week’.
Flick will hope to end a run of poor Champions League performances from the Blaugrana, failing to make it past the quarter-finals since 2018/19. On that occasion they squandered a 3-0 first leg lead against Liverpool and suffered one of the most iconic defeats in UCL history.
Since then, Barcelona have struggled to make an impact in the Champions League and have failed to progress from the group stages in two of the last three seasons. However they did show improvement in 2023/24 by making it to the quarter-finals, where they were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain.
In a bid to strengthen a squad that finished a distant second to Real Madrid in last season’s LaLiga, Barcelona have had a busy summer in the transfer market. They have brought in Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, but have also had a huge clear-out of unwanted players. Ilkay Gundogan, Sergi Roberto, Marcos Alonso, Sergiño Dest, Clement Lenglet, João Félix, João Cancelo and Oriol Romeu are among those who have left the club as Barcelona prepare to enter a new era.
