Barcelona game postponed over lack of players
FC Barcelona Atlètic’s Game against Real Sociedad B has been suspended over a lack of available players for Albert Sánchez. The tie, which was set to take place at the weekend, has been postponed due to the number of injuries and players called up to the youth categories of the Spanish national team.
Match day 8 of Group 1 of the Primera Federación division will now take place without the aforementioned Game as the Catalans were unable to name 11 players in their squad.
A total of 14 players are either injured or on national team duty this week as top-flight club football takes a break and international fixtures are held.
Pau Prim, Héctor Fort, Andrés Cuenca, Guillermo Fernández and Juan Hernández have been called up for the Spain U-19 team, while Landry Farré, Xavi Espart, Eder Aller, Quim Junyent and Toni Fernández have been called up for the U-18 team. In addition, Pedro Soma has been called up for the United States U-21, Noah Darvich for Germany U-19 and Yaakobishvili for Hungary U-19.
The short statement from the club said that the Game, set to be held at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, will be suspended until further notice.
As things stand after 7 games, Barcelona are 9th out of 20th in the division, having won 2, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their games. They are 10 points behind league leaders Cultural Leonesa who are unbeaten so far and just 3 from relegation. La Real B are flying high in 4th and have won 4 from 7, losing just twice. They are 6 points from top and sit behind Barakaldo and Andorra in the standings.
This season has seen plenty of young players from Barcelona’s B team called up to the first team squad, with Hansi Flick not scared of pulling the trigger and inviting those he sees as ready. A number of players have been named on the bench throughout the season and some, such as Pau Víctor and Gerard Martín, have made the starting XI for LaLiga games.
