The New Orleans Saints come into the 2024 season looking to build on a 2023 campaign where the Saints finished with a 9-8 record, but lost out on a playoff spot because of tiebreakers in the division and wild card races. Derek Carr is back at starting QB for the Saints, but the Saints offense needs to be better and their numbers at the end of the season were not indicative of how bad the Saints’ offense was at times throughout the 2023 season, scoring 20 points or less 7 times last season. Gary Kubiak comes in as offensive coordinator, and will be tasked with revamping an offense that still has some solid pieces like Chris Olave, who is coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and A.T. Perry, who is hoping for a solid sophomore campaign.

The key will be helping Alvin Kamara get back to the Kamara of old, and if they can, this Saints team could be one to watch in the NFC South. On defense, Chase Young comes in via free agency to help an aging front for New Orleans, but a neck injury could reduce his ability to see the field early on in 2024. Demario Davis is back at linebacker for the Saints while the secondary will once again be the glue of the New Orleans defense, with Tyrann Mathieu back and the addition of Kool-Aid McKinstry via the draft out of Alabama in the second round.

The Arizona Cardinals come into the 2024 campaign hoping to bounce back after another 4-13 season, end their 2-year playoff drought and try to get back in the conversation in the NFC West. The best news the Cardinals could’ve received is that Kyler Murray looks to be 100% back from his ACL injury in 2022, and looked solid in returning midseason in 2023. James Conner is back at running back after his first career 1,000-yard rushing season, but also gets help with the Cardinals drafting Trey Benson out of Florida State in the 3^rd round.

Marvin Harrison Jr. was the big get for Arizona’s receiving corps, coming in 4^th overall out of Ohio State to pair with Michael Wilson and Trey McBride to make up a fairly underrated receiving corps in the desert. On defense, the Cardinals hit free agency to bolster their defense, bringing in Justin Jones and Bilal Nichols up front and Mack Wilson at linebacker. Kyzir White is back at linebacker to hold down the Cardinals defense and BJ Ojulari is expected to take another step forward in 2024.

I’m on the Cardinals here. The mantra for me in betting preseason Football is to back the team with what I feel has stronger depth, especially in the early weeks of preseason. The Saints, even when we get to the regular season, feel like a team to me that’s very top heavy in terms of their starting talent and there being a drop off after that. The Cardinals for me feel like a much deeper team that has more position battles going on and I think iron sharpens iron and the Cardinals get the W here. Give me Arizona.
