Millions of iPhone owners are being urged to check if they will be affected by rumoured changes to Apple’s support services next month.

Rumours are circulating that Apple is cutting support for several online services, such as the App Store, Siri and Maps, on devices running an operating system from iOS 11 to iOS 11.2.6.

This means those iPhone owners with a device that can’t upgrade to iOS 11.3 or later could end up with a phone rendered largely defunct as of next month.

Speculation has been circulating online, with one well-known Apple leaker announcing the news via Twitter.

The tweet added that some other Apple products such as Mac computers, Macbook laptops, Apple Watches and Apple TVs may also be affected.

Apple often stops providing security updates and bug fixes for old models, however, if these changes to come into play, it will mark the first time Apple has actively reduced the functionality of old devices.

Currently, an iPhone running a version of iOS 11 can update to at least iOS 12.5.4.

The iPhones that can still do this include the iPhone 5S and newer. Therefore, only those with an iPhone older than these models will be affected.

If Apple does cut these services for devices running a version of iOS 10 or older, it would effectively turn those smartphones into just phones, meaning they could still make calls but wouldn’t be able to do much else.

While Apple is yet to confirm the news, it did recently publish an article hinting at possible changes.

In the article published last month, Apple instructs users how to update the software on their Apple device if they get a notification saying that their current version will no longer support Apple Services, such as App Store, Siri and Maps.
