This year the Monarchs kicked off the season with losses to South Carolina, East Carolina and Virginia Tech in their first three. Old Dominion has gone 4-1 since then however, losing to Coastal Carolina among wins versus Bowling Green, Georgia State, Texas State and Georgia Southern.

Over on the Appalachian State side, they went 2-2 over their first four Games, beating East Tennessee State and East Carolina with losses to South Alabama and Clemson. After a cancelled Game versus Liberty the Mountaineers lost to Marshall and Louisiana.

Matched up against Georgia State on Saturday the Mountaineers played a tight Game the whole way and ultimately came out on top 33-26. Joey Aguilar threw for 299 yards and three scores, while Ahmani Marshall rushed 18 times for 115 yards and a touchdown.

I’ll stay with the Monarchs. Old Dominion is coming off a nice effort versus a decent Georgia Southern team, posting 560 yards (256 rushing), 8.2 yards per play, 26 first downs and 7-of-13 on third-down tries. The ODU defense came up with two turnovers and held the Eagles to just 25:08 in time of possession and 17 first downs. The Monarchs are rolling right now with three straight wins.

As for App State, they posted a gutsy win over Georgia State last weekend, notching 479 yards (299 passing) and 7.4 yards per play along the way. The Mountaineers defense didn’t generate any takeaways but posted a nice effort on third downs (1-for-8). Appalachian State has given up 26 or more points in four straight Games though, so the Monarchs should have some good looks at potential scores here.
