Okay, so I don't have any Pets, but my girlfriend does, and as soon as I saw this amazing summer Pet hack, I had to send it to her immediately because I wanted to try this!

Help Your Fur Baby Beat the Heat this Summer

Just like how we need to watch our exposure to the sun and stay hydrated, so do our furry companions. Extreme temperatures could mean heat stroke, dehydration or even death for Pets—especially those kept in stuffy, confined spaces or left outdoors. Walking your Pet on hot pavement could also lead to burns on their paw pads. Unlike us humans who can speak and communicate when we are having heat-related issues, we have to look at our Pet's body language. Signs that your Pet may be overheating include:

  • Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
  • Increased heart and respiratory rate
  • Drooling
  • Mild weakness
  • Stupor or collapse
  • Seizures
  • Bloody diarrhea and vomit
  • Elevated body temperature of over 104 degrees
  • Glazed eyes

On Facebook, I stumbled upon an amazing trick to help your Pets cool off in the summer! Recycle, Reuse and Repurpose! on Facebook is an amazing public group with over 1.5 million members. Regular folks share many of their incredible life hacks with each other, and through that, conversations stem and greater innovation follows!

Jonathan Flexman shared to the group: "Laundry basket, pool noodles, zip ties. Not my idea, but brilliant." Unfortunately, it's not letting me embed the photo into this article, but you can visit it by clicking here. I did; however, find a post virtually the same, which you can see above! Essentially, you wrap a pool noodle around the rim of the basket, and connect the noodle using zip ties! Once you put the basket in the water, the whole in the laundry basket allow the bottom to be submerged while the pool noodle helps it to float and stay balanced!

Of course, if you try this either in your pool, at a lake, a pond, or a beach, make sure to never leave your Pet unsupervised! Also, not every laundry basket can support every Pet. Make sure to find one that works best for your Pet's size. Find a smaller one with fewer holes if you have a smaller Pet, while considering a much larger basket for a much larger animal. Also, this trick may not work at all for some Pets, so please your best judgement if and when trying this trick out. Now, yes, your Pet could just use their own pool floaty, but not all floats will actually partly submerge your Pet in a safe and balanced manner.

But let's take this up a notch! You can put a board on top of the basket, and then use this contraption as a floating desk! Imagine being able to safely keep your drinks beside you while in the pool. I would never do this, but if someone really wanted to, they could rest their book or electronics on top, as well! Again, I'd be paranoid the whole time to go that far with it, but it's an awesome, cheep hack that could be really useful and versatile!
