Marcella Pace is a primary school teacher from Italy who is fascinated with the Moon and photography. The combination of the two fueled her passion in astrophotography to the point where NASA chose several of her images as Astronomy Photo of the Day.

Her most valued image is one that depicts 48 distinct coloured moons, and it took her ten years to complete. Because Pace had a lot of idle time while being forced to stay at home during the lockdown, she began looking through all the photographs she had taken over the years.

Pace began by gathering all of the full moons she had captured over the years and selected the 48 with the most distinct colors. These colours were possible to capture thanks to the atmospheric scattering encapsulating the rising/setting moon. This incredible image was initially published in November 2020 as part of NASA’s Astronomy Photo of the Day, but it is still causing a stir on the Internet today.
