2024 Caribbean Series: Scores, games, calendar, TV schedule and standings | Semifinals set

With MLB pitchers and catchers reporting for spring training over the next week or two and college baseball just around the corner, the winter leagues around the Caribbean and Latin America are winding down. And of course, that means the Caribbean Series, the pride of every national league squaring off for bragging rights over what is without any doubt the worldwide cradle of baseball: the Caribbean.

There are some new faces as the powerhouses of the past few seasons, Colombia decided to sit out the comPetition rather than stump up a large fee as a visiting nation. For a country who have won the title twice in four years, they can be forgiven for feeling that they should be a full member rather than simply “invited.”

The Cubans have likewise decided not to attend on financial grounds, leaving just Panama of the traditional powerhouses who are currently left in the tournament. In lieu of Colombia and Cuba, Nicaragua have joined the fray.

Curaçao has managed to hang on to get into Semifinals. Their stunning win today against Puerto Rico has given them a place in Semifinals and knocked out one of the favorites coming into the competition, Puerto Rico.

Panama and Venezuela have also clinched spots in the semifinals. They will be joined by the Dominican Republic in the final four, which takes place tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 8.

As Panama and the Dominican Republic went head to head, it was two solo home runs that made the difference as Panama ground out a hard won win that sees them back on top of the heap, however briefly.

The Semifinals will take place on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET and 8 p.m. ET. The winning teams will move on to the final game on Friday at 8 p.m. ET and the losers will play for third place at 3 p.m.
