Chelsea return to Premier League action on Tuesday with a trip to London rivals Arsenal. The Blues have endured a torrid season but are still within touching distance of the European places, thanks in large part to the incredible form of Cole Palmer.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a historic debut campaign for the club but is now a major doubt to feature on Tuesday. Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino revealed on Monday that Palmer is recovering from an illness and did not train with the team ahead of the Game.

Pochettino told reporters: “We will see tomorrow morning. Today, I don’t believe he can be involved. Even if he is good tomorrow, maybe he is not in a condition to play. We hope he can recover from this situation and be involved with the team.”

Palmer has made 39 appearances for Chelsea so far this season and scored 23 goals, marking him out as the team’s key player in his first season with the club.

Who is the youngest Premier League Golden Boot winner?

Palmer continues to impress and looks set to win his third Premier League Player of the Month Award for his performances in April. He scored hat-tricks in wins over Everton and Manchester United and is currently level at the top of the Premier League scoring charts.

He has scored 20 goals in the top flight this year, level with 2022/23 Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland. If Palmer can continue this form over Chelsea’s final seven Games he could finish the season with the Golden Boot, becoming the youngest player to win the award since an 18-year-old Michael Owen managed it in 1997/98, scoring 18 goals for Liverpool.

Palmer’s performances have seen him called up for the England national team and he looks to have inserted himself into Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s European Championships. He made his debut in a 2-0 victory over Malta last November and has previously won the Under-21 European Champions with England’s youth team.
