When was the last time Bayern Munich didn’t win the Bundesliga? Have Leverkusen ever won it?

Bayern Munich’s miserable Bundesliga season continued on Saturday as they surrendered a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Heidenheim, all the while league leaders Bayer Leverkusen were winning again away to Union Berlin.

When can Leverkusen win the 2023/24 Bundesliga?

Xabi Alonso’s side now hold a 16-point lead at the top of the table with only six matches left to play, which means Leverkusen will win the first title in their History next weekend if they win at home to Werder Bremen on Sunday.

On top of that, they are unbeaten in 41 matches in all comPetitions, a German record, and could become the first team to complete a Bundesliga season without losing a league fixture.

While Leverkusen are on the brink of making History, their impending triumph will bring to an end one of the most dominant streaks in the History of club soccer.

How many league titles in a row have Bayern won? How many do they have in total?

Bayern have incredibly won the last 11 Bundesliga titles in a row, which has seen them move onto 32 in total. That means they are a whopping 27 (yes, twenty-seven) ahead of two teams who are in joint-second place on the list with five: Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Dortmund were, of course, the last club other than Bayern to win the league in Germany, with the back-to-back titles claimed in 2011 and 2012 going a long way to putting Jürgen Klopp on the map as an elite-level coach.

Bayern and Leverkusen still dreaming of European glory

While Bayern are still in contention to win the Champions League, their current form (just four wins in 10 matches) means they are not fancied by many to get past Premier League title challengers Arsenal in the quarter-finals.

And the Bavarians could also be further overshadowed by Leverkusen, who will face 2. Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern in the final of the DFB Pokal (German Cup) and have reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they will take on West Ham United.

Could a treble be on the cards? Alonso recently stated he would not be joining either Bayern or Liverpool this coming summer, which suggests Leverkusen will continue to be a formidable force again next season. Maybe Harry Kane shouldn’t have left Spurs after all...
