The inaugural NFL draft took place in 1936 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia. From 1936 to 1964, the draft moved around various cities, including Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Washington, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and Los Angeles.

Starting in 1965, the draft found a more permanent home in New York City, where it remained for 50 years. In recent years, the NFL has taken the draft on the road, visiting cities like Chicago, Philadelphia, Arlington (Texas), Nashville, Cleveland, Las Vegas, and Kansas City.

The 2024 NFL Draft will be held in downtown Detroit at Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza.
