The US Open format for establishing the cut line is a little different than other major tournaments. At Pinehurst No. 2 the top 60 players and ties will make the cut and continue play into the weekend. Other majors such as the PGA Championship and the British Open take 70 players and ties after 36 holes while the Masters allows the top 50 players and ties to continue into the weekend.

The course has been playing brutally hard on Thursday and Friday and is demanding the most out of top’s best golfers. Everything off of the fairway is trouble and the greens are lightning fast and should get harder as play progresses though the weekend.

What is the current cut line at Pinehurst No. 2?

As things stand now at 7 p.m., the cut line is at +5. There are some big names sitting on the cut line at 5-over par (+5): Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood and Brooks Koepka, But the big news from Pinehurst, North Carolina is world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finished round 2 at 5-over par (+5) for the tournament and is currently sitting on the cut line. We expect the cut line to finish at +5, but we’ll have to see what happens this evening at the US Open.

The big names going home early are: Tiger Woods (+7), Viktor Hovland (+6), Max Homa (+6), Dustin Johnson (+8), Rickie Fowler (+8); Justin Thomas (+11) and Phil Mickelson (+15).

We’ll keep you posted all day as the cut line moves up to see who will be playing on Saturday and Sunday and who is going home early. We are predicting that Golfers who end up at 5-over par should be able to make the cut and play this weekend, we’ll see what it ends up at later in the day.
