What did the New York Jets owner say about Aaron Rodgers leaving football?
You may recall, that just a few weeks ago New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers became a major talking point after reports indicated that Independent U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had approached Rodgers about potentially serving as his running mate. In the end, Kennedy chose attorney and tech entrepreneur Nicole Shanahan and that was that, however, the amount of chatter that the news created was massive, to say the least.
Jets’ Woody Johnson addresses Aaron Rodgers’ possible political career
On Monday, New York Jets owner Woody Johnson was asked during an interview about Aaron Rodgers and his interest in being a vice presidential candidate. The question came in the context of discussing whether Rodgers truly had an eye on Politics and was no longer focused on Football. Johnson was clear in his answer, stating that his star signal caller was as focused as he’s ever been.
“He is getting back to football 100%. He never left football,” Johnson said. “That was a momentary distraction, maybe like going in the darkroom or whatever. But he’s back 100%. Great leader. ...If we can keep him on his feet, which I think we can, it’s going to be an exciting start to the season.” What’s curious about Johnson’s statement is his seemingly dismissive reference to Rodgers’ trip to a dark retreat last year, something described at the time as a means to help him clear his mind before making a decision on his career.
As we know, Rodgers was eventually traded to the Jets in a blockbuster deal. Sadly, the Jets’ lofty ambitions were cut short in the opening Game of this past season as they watched in horror as Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in the first few minutes of his debut in New York. If we assume that Johnson’s words are true, then we’ve also got to assume the Jets will be mentioned among the contenders once again. Whether Rodgers can help them to actually do that is another question.
