US Olympic track and field trials: When does Sha’Carri Richardson compete in Women’s 100 and 200?
It’s been a long three years for Sha’Carri Richardson. Indeed, there’s been a whole lot of hard work and rebuilding since she was last in this position. The question now is whether she can finally establish herself in the way that she’s always stated she could.
Sha’Carri Richardson is on the verge once more
It was not that long ago that a then-21-year-old Sha’Carri Richardson came to the fore on the NCAA track & field scene, establishing herself by becoming the division’s 100m dash champion and arguably LSU’s greatest sprinter in history. Indeed, on the back of that Richardson earned herself a spot on Team USA for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Yet, it all ended in tears as she was later suspended for a positive marijuana test during final preparations for the Summer Games.
To be clear, Richardson was regarded as one of the world’s best sprinters at the time of her suspension and to be fair to her, has not diminished in status since that time, evidenced by the fact that she won gold in both the 100m and 4x100m relays at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, essentially claiming the title of world’s fastest woman in the process. With that in mind, a strong showing in Paris would undoubtedly silence any remaining critics that exist, while endearing her to those who are unfamiliar with who she is and what she’s done. Yet, before we get there, Richardson must first conquer the field at the 2024 U.S. Olympic track and field trials.
Regarding when and where, the first round of the women’s 100m dash is slated for Friday, June 21st. Assuming she qualifies, she will be back on the track just one day later for Saturday’s 100m final where she will hope to confirm her place in Paris. It doesn’t stop there either as just a few days later she will be in comPetition once again for the 200m dash comPetition which starts a few days later on June 27th. If everything goes well i.e., she finishes in the top three with an Olympic standard time, Richardson will automatically earn a place in those races in Paris. Now, we wait and see.
