Tom Brady set for Ryan Reynolds fight as Deadpool gets ready for the NFL
An EFL League One Game between Birmingham City and Wrexham wouldn’t normally attract much attention in the United States, or anywhere outside England and Wales. Monday’s meeting between the two teams, however, will be an exception, as NFL icon Tom Brady and Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds go head-to-head in the third tier of English soccer.
Brady’s role with Birmingham City
The seven-time Super Bowl champion became a minority owner of The Blues in August 2023, also taking on a multi-faceted role in which he “commits his time and extensive expertise” as Chair of the Advisory Board”.
When his investment was announced, Birmingham issued a statement saying “the goal that Tom has committed to own is to make Birmingham City a respected leader in nutrition, Health, wellness, and recovery across the world of football” and that their mens’s women’s and academy teams will benefit from his knowledge.
Sadly for Brady, his new team doesn’t appear to have benefitted much, as they were relegated from the English Championship in the summer, finishing 22nd of out 24 teams.
Reynolds and Rob McElhenney invested in Wrexham, financially and emotionally
Their demotion and Wrexham’s promotion from English League Two means the two teams will now cross paths. The Welsh club finished second in last season’s standings, which meant they went up automatically, avoiding the end-of-season playoffs.
Since Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney bought The Red Dragons in November 2020, they have guided the club to two promotions in three full seasons. When the Hollywood stars took over, Wrexham had been outside of the English league system since 2008.
The duo have been praised for the way they have become emotionally invested in the club, and tried to keep it at the heart of the local community. And fans have been able to follow their journey in “Welcome to Wrexham,” a docuseries broadcast on Hulu which has enjoyed success in the United States and given the team plenty of exposure.
When is Brady’s Birmingham against Reynolds’ Wrexham? How to watch on TV, stream online
On Monday, NFL meets Hollywood in EFL League One for the very first time. The match between Birmingham City and Wrexham will be played on September 16, with kickoff at 3pm ET. Fans in the United States will be able to watch the Game on ABC, Paramount+ and fuboTV.
