It’s the news Celtic fans have been eagerly awaiting. According to Record Sport, Cameron Carter-Vickers has returned to training ahead of Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash with Aberdeen.

This provides a significant boost to Brendan Rodgers’ squad, with the American defender ready to bolster the team as they prepare for a critical run of fixtures.

Celtic are set to host an Aberdeen side who, like the Hoops, have won their opening seven league matches. The two clubs sit level on points, with Celtic leading on goal difference. Saturday’s encounter at Celtic Park presents an opportunity for Rodgers’ side to pull away from their closest challengers and end the impressive run of Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin.

Carter-Vickers has been sidelined since sustaining a toe injury during the during Celtic’s Champions League opener against Slovan Bratislava last month.

His absence has seen summer signing Aaron Trusty step up alongside Liam Scales at the heart of the defence. However, there’s little doubt that the return of Carter-Vickers, widely regarded as the club’s best centre-back, would be a massive lift for Rodgers and his team.

A return to the starting XI for the Celtic stalwart on Saturday would be a major signal of intent as the champions look to assert their dominance over this Aberdeen side.

But the club and the manager must be careful not to bring CCV back too soon to ensure his return from injury isn’t short lived.
