The eight drivers who will be replaced in Abu Dhabi FP1

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend is the final chance for some Formula 1 teams to meet a new rule for the 2022 season.

Prior to the campaign getting underway, a new clause was added as Article 32.5 of the Sporting Regulations.

Each car would have to be given up for one practice session to allow a rookie driver to get meaningful mileage in contemporary machinery.

As it applies to each car - rather than each team - it means the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are required to put their helmet up for a session while someone else drives their car.

Heading into the final FP1 session of the season, some drivers have still not given up their car, including World Champion Verstappen.

However, he will do so on Friday morning, along with seven other drivers. The table below has all the information about who is in, and who is out.

Red Bull junior driver Liam Lawson gets his third run-out of the season after subbing in for AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda in Belgium and Mexico respectively.

This time, he'll be in place of World Champion Verstappen and driving the Red Bull in an official practice session for the first time this year.

Jack Doohan pilots Fernando Alonso's Alpine, having taken Esteban Ocon's car at the Mexican GP circuit a couple of weeks ago.

IndyCar star Pato O'Ward gets his first taste of the McLaren MCL36, in place of Lando Norris, after IndyCar rival Alex Palou drove earlier in the season.

Having deputised for Charles Leclerc in the United States, Robert Shwartzman switches to the other side of the garage, and takes Carlos Sainz's car for a spin, with the out-going Mick Schumacher replaced at Haas by Pietro Fittipaldi.

New Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich (below) gets his first outing in a modern F1 car in place of Lance Stroll.

Williams have already completed their rookie driver requirements, but will be aiming to earn Logan Sargeant another superlicence point by completing 100km for Williams in place of Nicholas Latifi.

Alfa Romeo have also completed their rookie driver duties, but Robert Kubica will also be involved in FP1, taking over Guanyu Zhou's car.
